Deconstruction of a Double-Page Spread 3 of 3

  • The only image related to the article is the main image, it adds to the meaning of the article because readers can clearly see the artist that the article is about. The article is focusing on Florence and the machine being in America and the American reaction to their music, the red and white striped flag adds to the meaning of the article, it suggests America.
  • On the double page spread there are three small columns of text, the majority of the double page spread is filled by the image. The text columns are placed at the bottom left corner of the double page spread. The overall colour scheme on the double page spread is black, white and red.
  • The feature headline and body of text have the same font, this is connecting them and visually the reader will recognize that the texts relate to one another.
  • The body text is aligned in an ordinary way, there are no pull quotes, images or side bars to interrupt the text and that means the reader will simply read all the way through the article without breaks or pauses.
  • The costume that the artist is wearing is unusual, the chest area has cones on it, and this is the typical style of the artist Florence as she has a very individual fashion sense. The dress she is wearing is all black and that again adds a sophisticated style to the article.
  • The only prop used in the image is a red and white stripy piece of cloth that Florence is sat on; it connects the image with the article about the USA and all of the elements subtly add the sophisticated style to the article.
  • There is one main image on this double page spread, it fills a whole page and over flows onto the next page. The size of the image shows the importance of the artist on the page and with there being only one image it suggests that this is a significant article.
  • At the top of the page in the corner the magazine section says ‘FLORENCE’. This makes it easy for the reader to flick through the magazine and easily find this article in the magazine.
